Sustainability is firmly anchored in our Dutch genes. It is a natural reflection of the typical Dutch mentality to derive strength from adversity and do resourceful things in a down to earth manner. Our onion seed companies for instance, have become known world famous for this.

The main reason to develop improved onion varieties is to permanently preserve the excellent quality of our Holland Onion. Noblesse oblige, as it were. For this, the Dutch growers, processors, seed companies, knowledge institutions and exporters have a sustainable ambition. That ambition has translated into a perennial and independent quality research program of our Holland onions, wherein almost 1,5 million euros will be jointly invested over the next three years. A truly unique initiative that is unmatched anywhere else in the world and one of which I am particularly proud of as president of the Holland Onion Association, of course.
