Dutch onions are exported to markets outside the European Union in 70 percent of cases. Every Holland Onion must therefore comply with EU quality regulations. These requirements are laid down in Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/2429 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/2430. The Quality Control Bureau Holland (Kwaliteits Controle Bureau Holland: “KCB”) in turn monitors these EU trading standards. KCB monitors each business partner in the Holland onion industry chain. The KCB is supervised by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs  plus the Dutch

Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit; “NVWA”). High-quality Holland onions must be intact, solid and have unblemished skins, without any stem remnants and practically free of any root remnants. The Holland onion industry chain is able to meet specific customer requirements and is committed to meeting any specified quality factors.
